After Ten Years, My Slave Returned to Me

   This is a simple and often sad story with nothing really unique to it, no interesting lore details, no fun characters or magic or whatever…
   It basically focuses on an extremely pitiful female lead who becomes empress and is being “healed” by the love and support of her husband.
   The male lead is – like the title says – a former slave who has become emperor (not merely a viscount or knight or anthing – nope, he has to be at the very top of the food chain like in so many similar stories) and now returns to marry the daughter of his former master’s house.
   The female lead then goes from having a super low self-esteem after being thoroughly traumatized and having lost her voice up to being able to speak again and slowly also being able to stand up for herself.
   The plot itself unfortunately consists of tons of tropes – the female lead is saved from being married off to a dirty old man just in time and is immediately married to the male lead instead, then pampered by maids in the palace, soon after that she is humiliated by jealous women by having poured water over her head, only to be again saved by the male lead, and a little later her horrible father visits and she has to be saved AGAIN…
   The one thing that makes this story okay is the male lead. He’s treating the female lead nicely, despite having been a slave – different to other stories where those former male slaves later on dominate or even humiliate the female leads, sometimes even though the female lead has helped them in the past.
   Also this male lead has to struggle against the rigid rules of being emperor, but at least he has great friends who also sympathize with the female lead and don’t have to be convinced by her that she’s worthy of being empress.
   No, this story is not SMUT, even though the lead characters have s*x in chapter 13, it’s not shown explicitely though. And that’s the point when the female lead tells her husband that her father has forced her to sleep with other men, and she even had a/n (missed?) ab*rtion 🙁
   Maybe this is the specific uniqueness of this story that 99% of all Korean manhwas and Japanese mangas never dare to include; because most of these “romance” stories are obsessed with female virginity instead…

      I have a slight feeling the story doesn’t set in 2026 (even though slaves still exist this day and age and it’s a really big problem in a lot of countries). ^^’
