   I’ve read up to chapter 49 and I’m officially dropping this. I kept telling myself maybe it would get better. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. Both of them are stuck in constant miscommunication, or there’s always something getting in the way, like someone conveniently showing up to wedge themselves between them. It’s the same insecurity on both sides over and over again, and in between all that, they just hook up. There are entire chapters where they basically just sleep together as some kind of resolution, and while I don’t mind a bit of smut here and there, this isn’t even worth it. It’s all censored anyway, so there’s no payoff. At some point, it just gets exhausting. The constant back and forth, the same misunderstandings, the same “he doesn’t love me, I’m not worth anything” spiral…it’s enough. I’m out. Goodbye, I’m done. If others want to keep reading, go ahead, but this is definitely not my cup of tea

   This story is soooo slow, it focuses way too much on the main couple’s relationship instead of what’s happening in their territory or on politics.
   We’re at chapter 49 now, and there’s been absolutely no progress!
   Dozens of chapters have been and are still being wasted on the main couple’s insecurities and doubts. The male lead STILL thinks that he doesn’t deserve his loving wife because of his age, the female lead STILL thinks she doesn’t deserve her stiff taciturn husband.
   Both constantly fear that their marriage partner could fall in love with someone else or still has lingering feelings for some former acquaintances, no matter how often they both swear their love to each other… It’s annyoing!
   Instead of challenging the stupid prince politically who is about to become the worst ruler this empire has ever seen and stopping his idiotic b*tch of a lover too, both of these enemies instead try to force themselves on the main couple that is not doing any more than defending themselves…
   Every few chapters another imagined “rival” shows up and the same routine is being repeated every time: the male lead and/or the female lead think/s that their marriage partner may want to cheat on them, then they clear up the misunderstandings and confirm their love, plus they (always) have make-up s*x – but then they fall back to the beginning and go through this same vicious circle with the next would-be-“rival”…

   I like it, even though it’s a story based on too many constructed (and not even always logical) “misunderstandings” between the main characters.
   But I adore the female lead nonetheless, and how she had been working hard for the sake of the country before her marriage and how she’s making herself useful after marriage quickly as well, like by teaching immigrants’ children/orphans. This is really refreshing to read and see.
   Readers who dislike large age gaps might feel put off by the seemingly middle-aged male lead maybe, because he constantly struggles with his own age, often thinking that he is “much older” than his wife – who loves him regardless.
   Other than that he’s a pretty typical male lead, super serious all the time, rather uncommunicative, stiff, polite, but not very social, and always buried in work. Plus he just HAS to be a war veteran too – with the idiotic nickname “grim reaper marquis”… At least he doesn’t have black hair (or… maybe he even had before his hair turned grey?).
   The summary is wrong about one thing – the worrywart male lead does NOT desire her wife “every night”, instead he believes he’s considerate by offering separate bedrooms after the bridal night, and it’s the female lead then who strives to get closer again.
   Unfortunately there’s an annoying cliché b*tch of a (step)sister too who snatched the former fiancé away from the female lead, who torments maids, hates her sister for no reason and commits pretty much every cliché stupidity in the book.
   Oh, and their father is an opportunistic and rude a**hole too.
   The former fiancée is not only a despicable guy (and also drawn like one, similar to the contemptible sister), but he’s the crown prince on top of that, which is an extra-boring trope.
   We can now only hope that this villainous and moronic couple will not really become the future king and queen of the pitiful country…
