Another very typical Chinese isekai, with the only unique selling point of taking place in an historical era.
In her past timeline the female lead was betrayed by her half-sister who seduced the husband of the female lead and also brought the family to ruin, after which the female lead committed suicide but “miraculously” returned in time – all in all an extremely cliché trope that several Asian comics have already exhausted in every possible detail.
Well, at least the female lead was not executed this time after being falsely accused by the evil sister like it happens so often 😛
However: why do (often half- or step-) sisters nearly always have to be such an evil b*tches in regression stories? And how come that nearly nobody has been able to see through the all-too transparent schemings of any of those white lotus b*tches in the first timeline? (Only the big brother of the female lead in this story started to have some suspicions, but he had died soon after that…)
At least the former husband is not depicted as being an innocent victim of an irresistible seductress in this story – this trope would be the absolute worst. Instead he seems to have been one of the main conspirators from the very beginning.
One thing I wonder about though: since most of the family of the female lead also fell for the evil half-sister hook, line and sinker, why does the female lead still see them all as pitiful victims and wants to “save” them all in this timeline?
Well, of course there are more clichés additionally to the basic trope, like several more women who are bullying the female lead and even attacking her physically just like that; or the male lead who “happens” to watch by “coincidence” how the female lead puts others in place and immediately finds her “interesting” (why just her, not any of the other girls who were present???), plus he also “happens” to be the crown prince of all people … * sigh *
On the other hand, there’s another important male character: the female lead’s big brother who died early in the first timeline who she wants to save now, but he’s also represented in many cliché events.
For example he “happens” to show up out of nowhere just in the nick of time so that he can save the female lead from being murdered by some sort of vagrants – in the very last second of the attack on her – and also “happens” to be an overpowered superior fighter himself.
After that they illogically let the attackers run away like in so many other stories…
And then there’s the BFF of the female lead who might or maybe might not be another conspirator, who became the crown prince’s consort in the first timeline. I really, really wish she won’t turn out to be another white lotus b*tch, so she can marry the big brother later on, but we’ll see.
Well, the art is beautiful though, and all the long-haired men are quite the sight, even though I found them a little hard to distinguish from each other at first 😀
