A baby can’t really move or talk. All interaction came from his part so he was more comfortable since it was all on his own terms. Lara is an active normal kid who hasn’t really understood boundaries yet.

Firstly, he arrived the Duke’s mansion at a sensitive time.
He was still griefing on his parents’ death, so he needed time and space.
However, Lara is like a little sunshine that tried to invade his personal time and space. He also mentioned that he was jealous of Lara’s innocence, so he was rude to her at first.
He wasn’t rude to Damian because Damian is calm and do not try to be super close the first time they met.
However, when he met Sasha, his wound has been somewhat healed already.
Plus, a baby is a completely new creature to him. A baby is so cute, almost like a doll.
In addition, he rescued this baby, so a bond has been formed in the first encounter already.
Not to mention, Sasha is such a calm and composed baby, so their personalities match.
He also would have liked shasha it just his parents died and him having weird feeling and getting consufed of her being carefree. As you can see the flashback of him explained in this chapter. when he came to understanding as Her brother told him, till it was late as he said she is avoiding him like plague.
@Pinkchik you are right. I hate this trope of having mother dead and the child grow without their parents like mikhail. I really really hate this trope. A child really need mother in their kid phage to grow up and when a kid become teen. He need father for physical support and mother for emotional support when the kids get hurt.
