It’s either that he does not want to burden her with raising the child and allowing maids to teach the child, or he experienced being separated from his mother at a young age and doesn’t see it as abnormal.

There’s also the possibility that the king was abused by his mother or that he wanted to teach the child to be independent at a young age so he wouldn’t be controlled by the empress (which I think happened to him but also backfired).

Overall, I think this is just a big misunderstanding, and someone is trying to separate the king and the queen by using the child against his parents.
