I have the hunch that she may be lesbian or bisexual & she might be suppressing this because she is scared of the way her environment would react & the way society perceives it – therefore she settles for a more petite/feminine type of man. I think the scene in which he professed his love whilst being a cross-dresser has awakened something in her. Plus a couple chapters prior to this we’ve seen that she feels insecure & odd because some of her male friends have confessed to her but she never had any romantic feelings for them at all & rejected them. I think that’s very plausible but that’s just my theory.
