I don’t think they’re just adding it just because… I think I saw somewhere that polygamy and concubinage were practiced by nobles and Royals in early medieval period due the same reasoning as Asian empires which mostly for political/strategic functions and for producing multiple heirs… Monogamy was only implemented when Christianity became widely practiced. But there are still royalty practicing concubinage, look at Camilla.
