For all the Riftan haters, it’s painted out better in the book and in Riftan’s own novel. He has seen her as mostly frail the whole time he’s known maxi. Like a gust of wind would knock her down. Along with her personality she is the picture of a delicate noble lady. He treats her with kid gloves because he’s so afraid that something will happen to take her from him that he’s overprotective.
