While normally I don’t defend weak FL, I have accepted this story is more grounded in reality when it comes to dealing with trauma. Someone uneducated and abused all their life will focus on personal survival and fear of being sent back to those abusive conditions. I don’t think she loves Riftan yet, because she is afraid he will leave if he knows the truth and still sees him as her escape from her previous life, but she also doesn’t want him to die because she like him.
