I too hope the male lead smiled because he recognized his contract wifey. She knew too much about those executives, and her way of talking to him (plus not refusing to buy snacks for a whole bunch of people that should be complete strangers to her) gave her away too.
Also, why else would that skirt “annoy” him? Basically asking a female stranger to cover herself would definitely NOT be “nice”, btw.
