I wonder if I’ve been reading the same thing as everyone else, because in the comments for the previous installments, everyone is talking shit about the ML (which, frankly, is usually justified in webtoons like these, because in basically every single one the ML is usually a scumbag) but this is like one of the few where I feel like he’s pretty justified.
Remember that he’s only like 2-3 years older than the FL and basically the same age, and on top of that there are power dynamics at play that really did not leave him a lot of options. Between her self-confessed unhealthy obsession over him in the past timeline, including genuinely insane behaviors (which seemed worse because, as she admitted, she didn’t even try to dispel or explain to him), her father, the Duke’s machinations to basically keep him trapped and under his thumb until his daughter loses interest (his hope), and totally sabotages him, and may or may not be working with Marquis Tristan, who spread all the rumors about her and is implied to have helped destroy him in the last timeline. Also the ML’s dad pushed him into this whole situation, first as a kid (where, again, implied he was put in an abusive situation with the Duke), who then may have committed fraud (or more likely, coerced or tricked into by Duke Blanc/Marquis Tristan) then left the ML with the bag when he ran off (or secretly killed off) so he either had to go to jail, or accept The Duke’s terms. Let’s not also forget all his mom did to drive a wedge between them, which was very easily resolved when FL made the effort to talk to him.
Let’s also be clear, he isn’t JUST developing feelings, he did have feelings for her before they were married, and even wanted to tun away from her until she turned into the crazy obsessive girlfriend/wife from hell. She’s acting more like she did before she became more obsessive and it’s rekindling those feelings, which is obviously complicated for him.
Like he never did anything crazy to her like in a lot of webtoons of this genre. He didn’t cheat on her, he didn’t beat her, kill her, etc. He did kill himself in front of her, but that was after she fell for her father’s schemes and completely destroyed his life so he would have no one but her.
If anything, he actually, despite his misgivings, listens to her and even extends a little trust to her. He sees the way she’s acting, and responds accordingly. He can’t fully trust her, but they’re making progress.
Anyway, I don’t think this guy is so bad/rotten. He’s been dealt a really bad hand and forced into a no-win situation since he is actively being sabotaged too.
