Does the author think that some readers who went through a horrible childhood will identify themselves with the female lead if she is treated less than human?
I was abused by my own father too, but I cannot possibly compare myself to a child who is forced to do child labor, is starved and is also bullied even by servants … Who in this world is supposed to feel similar to a character like that?
Who even has so many servants nowadays? And in those kind of wealthy families, servants wouldn’t dare mistreat a family-member, not even one that is somehow treated badly by their parents…
