she’s more concerned about retaining wealth and prestige than the fate of her grand niece. for that matter, she doesnt seem to care much about the actual happiness of her grand nephews, just that they should live in luxury. they’re not starving, the food on their table isn’t rotten or moldy, they even have enough money to hire some servants, they’re not living in the lap of luxury, but they’re certainly not living in abject poverty :/
idk i think if the protag was portrayed as more of a money-grubbing person and less of a family-oriented person, i would be able to get behind her characterization. as it is, the narrative wants me to believe that she’s such a good person who cares deeply about her family….. and also doesnt give a flying fuck about her presumably dead grand niece, only wants wealth and luxury for her grand nephews, and is obsessed with obtaining the prestige of the past. it’s just really getting under my skin. i can totally love a shallow money-loving protagonist, but i don’t want the narrative to lie to my face that she’s such a family loving person urgh
