How can she really help him anyway? It was ww1 (I think?), weren’t men drafted? Or was that just America? But I’ve been wondering if maybe he had loved her…. but was too disgusted by himself and traumatized to get close to her?
Men in the UK weren’t drafted at first it was a voluntary decision until 1916 (if i’m not wrong), after 1916 there were a conscription which meant some men were forced to go to war ! Conscription (so all men between some ages going to war) were only in some country like mine, since war was in our territory), hope that helps !!
