Summary
Read manga The Prostitute Plays The Role Of A Queen / 娼婦は女王を演じる
“I’m not a queen!” In the midst of a revolution, Adele, a prostitute, was about to be executed. She looked exactly like Queen Celestine, who had caused chaos in the country, and was made to be her substitute. However, the moment the blade of the guillotine fell, Adele regressed back to five years ago. “If this continues, I’ll be killed again!” Adele tried to flee the country, but she was hit by the carriage of Laurent, the queen’s fiancé, and was mistaken for the queen and taken back to the royal palace. Will Adele be able to play the role of queen to change her fate of execution?

I like this story, it’s surprisingly original without all the typical clichés and tropes.
It’s not an isekai, no regression either, but there’s a prophetic dream at the beginning that warns the female lead of treachery to come and her possible execution as an unwitting double of the queen.
When the female lead tries to escape the schemer who made her into a double (a black-haired villain), she is picked up by the blondie on the cover – a duke and attendant of the queen, who is seemingly a good guy… and then she herself offers to help out by posing as the queen without being forced this time.
I really like that the prostitute is a good-hearted person and makes for a nice empress, so the people of the country might now actually have a better future.
I also like that the real queen and fake queen have a good relationship, and that later on the real queen falls for a shy gardener 😀
I find it especially admirable that the author does not discriminate against prostitutes, is not obsessed with female virginity until marriage like so many manhwa authors, and doesn’t go the typical route of a woman who is about to sell her body, but is saved before that so that she can stay a virgin…
So many authors seem to think that a woman must be untouched and innocent as an ideal bride for the male lead, while male leads are most often cold or even antisocial, have killed dozens of people in battle and are definitely NOT the perfect grooms for any woman with common sense 😛
