In contrast, Erna suffers from low self-esteem, which prevents her from believing that someone like Bjorn could genuinely love her. The revelation that she was merely a trophy to him crushes her, highlighting the poignant and realistic portrayal of human vulnerability
Understanding the narrative isn’t an excuse for his behavior. What does being realistic and mature have to do with the readers disliking Bjorn? This is not about how well written/complex Bjorn is. This is about his actions and behavior in that moment. Sure, he loves Erna and doesn’t realize it. But his ego and pride are turning his love into a twisted obsessive love. We all know Bjorn and Erna is gonna end up back together. We all know he’s gonna change for the better and regret. That doesn’t mean he deserves her after all that emotional trauma he put her through. Logical and realistic ending would be they go their own separate ways. But this is the author’s story and there will be a happy ending. (And i really think yall are reading into much about this psychological/emotional narrative. Pretty sure the author just wanted to write a dark romance because it’s a popular trend right now)
