@MayaMS maybe the Commander felt threatened because he knows the Duke’s love for his daughter. Although Tan is a commoner if Sel insisted I’m sure dad would approve. They’re literally the richest in the empire and Tan has a good reputation plus the benefit of saving his daughter, there’s not much to protest. But I think it was more that he doesn’t want Sel to fall for Tan because then she would choose to marry Tan.

Actually the duke is behind it. Before the subjugation the OgFL and him did some black magic so that ogFL won’t have to suffer. The og FL is grace and the our FL is in the body of the OgFL. Now that everything was done, they got fame and all, he wanted to get FL out of that body and have his actual daughter come back via dark magic and all.
Maybe there were some magic traces left behind, and that’s why he said this. But still should have said it clearly, unless he decided that if she’s stupid then she doesn’t deserve to know D:
