… Very unfortunate “ending” for years of mistreating and abuse. Fabian was still a child (though old enough to know that what he was doing was wrong) so I guess he could get a pass if he actually means what he says and truly does make up for his past actions as he promised, but I find it incredibly distasteful that she “has” to forgive the adults that quite literally drove her to consider suicide as the only option at some point. It’s even worse that from that was also born the now clearly inescapable shackles she has to the royal family and their deranged son. I guess it couldn’t have had any other resolution since she had quite literally no power and her “family” still hold her mother’s well being (now clearly stated to be an ongoing issue) over her head. As she said she shouldn’t have expected anything, and honestly having the bare minimum done (kicking out the staff that literally bullied and humiliated a small weak child grieving her father’s death) is not nearly enough to convince me that they changed. I really hope they either earn that forgiveness the author is pushing the FL to bestow, or that she at least gets to leave on her own terms unlike before.
Oh boy, it’s time for forgiveness. At least they’ve learned about the horrible living conditions and are actively doing something about it.
She doesn’t have to forgive them, and it’s not “fair” they’re not punished for their actions and indifference, but if the end result is Savina is happier and healthier, it’s more of a fair trade. Life doesn’t have to be about revenge and punishment. Focusing on a better life is a better goal all round.
