@doctorheleny Real, from the first meeting with her grandfather and uncle plus the critizing from both I can understand why MC feels like shes not belong there.
We as a reader probably know there’s a misunderstanding because we see all perspectives unlike her. you know like did she know that her grandfather was drunk when she wanted to commemorate her father’s death together and then he chased her away? no, she didn’t know that. (Chapter 14)

I think you guys are forgetting a very important thing: she has NO REASON to think they’re doing this bcs they like her yes she is harsh on her judgement with them but since she came into the dukedom all they do is criticize and isolate her and berate her for what her parents did by running away. We as readers we can visualize her situation in a bigger picture but she can’t, she is not in a position for it, don’t blame on the victim here she is clearly innocent

I want to blame both the family and her for their terrible communication skills, but you can’t help but blame the FL more since we see her POV more and she just LOVES throwing a pity party for herself.

All of them are terrible at communicating but she’s also full of assumptions causing misunderstandings that make the issues bigger than they are. The dress that came from madam clarissa wasnt given to her with good intentions, it was purposefully made gaudy and even though she’s not familiar with noble fashion she should be old enough to realize clarissa set her up. The same goes for the head maid giving her a dirty room, she knew the head maid had a problem with her but assumes the old duke specifically gave her that dirty room? Why doesn’t she ever think? Just like the night she went to see the duke on her father’s death anniversary, he was drunk and probably didn’t want to see her who looks like his deceased son because he’s already a wreck and that would make his pity party worse. She praises herself for not being an actual child so she can handle that situation better but she still misunderstood what was going on. I understand though, she’s already 100% sure they hate her so every interaction can easily be twisted into a negative one no matter how positive their intentions were. She’s got a lot of damage with them and if they don’t start communicating soon its going to take forever for her to heal.
