I wish I had better things to say about this, because the art is quite pretty and the translation is surprisingly good… but unfortunately it comes off as a soulless “moneygrab”. Here are the main three problems: 1. it’s literally the same old plot about an abused girl that finds salvation in a contract marriage with a prince (no subversion, no added quirkness, no nothing, it’s straight up like that), except that the reason she’s abused and “hated” is really stupid (her hair color) not to mention that the abuse comes only from her sister, that makes little sense tbh; 2. since the premise is so weak (she being hated for her hair color) you’d think they’d make up for it with the execution but uh… nope. Everything happens super abruptly, and then go on to end swiftly, and I mean REALLY swiftly, with plots barely beginning and then being immediately “solved” without proper developement or even the bare minimum of depth. Unfortunately that makes not only for bad storytelling, but also for shallow characters with no discernible personalities and/or not very believable motivations; 3. the medieval setting is very underused. In fact, it almost feels like it’s more like a prop, since it’s not properly explored in any way and characters act way too modern, including in their speech and mannerisms. Even when they are talking about medieval related stuff like etiquette and manners for servants it sounds modern, like an actor reciting his lines half heatedly in a play. It’s just all very half baked, to put it mildly. What I did particularly like is that the relationship between the leads raises some slightly interesting discussions about doctrine, fairness and so on. It’s (again) unfortunate that it happens so shallowly and depthless.
