In historical times, socialization is major important to.maintain a good noble position. It’s also how information spreads.
It’s all about status and who is in your circle. Connections get things done. Good connections help improve your status. A bastard knight who is close to a crown prince connect be easily bullied or ostracized, likewise people of different ranks. There are noble factions that also advise the king etc.
For exam. Her connection built with the empress saved her skin. Had the royals hated her, they would have found a way to blame her and punish her even though she’s innocent.
Having the right nobles in your corner gives a certain protection because going against you will upset certain nobles that are quite influential, could lead to unrest, war etc. Hope this helps.
The reason they all want her to “make friends” is because “physical strenght” will only get her so far. Nobles all have some level of military strenght, be it from their own soldiers or from mercenaries hired when needed. That´s why they try to decide the pecking order with words, etiquette, riches, etc. Via “social strenght”.
It´s no different to school: You´re not supposed to beat up anyone according to the “law” (i.e. the school rules) since that causes choas in the long run, but humans still like to be better than others. You need charisma to make others follow you, you can use your parents money to show you´re better (even in a school for the rich there´s always the less rich and the more rich), etc. And when someone annoys you, or you´re a §$&$&& with that kind of taste, then you use rumors (i.e. attacks from the back) to bring them down. Nobles are just adults that use more complicated schemes or stuff kids have no access to/wouldn´t think of using like hiring ruffians/assassins.
Yes, our girl IS strong, but the people she cares about like her maid are not. This time worked out because the king (higher rank than the lying noble) was amused. If he had wanted to bring her down for any reason (annoyed, bored, political reason, etc) then her strenght won´t do snuff, then she needs connections. Cause strenght only protects what´s in your reach. And she´s used to fighting beasts that come at her, not demons in human form that poison her maid for a giggle, but in a 3 month scheme where nobody realises till later. Since the goal then isn´t always to weaken her: Some folks will find it funny to see MC suffer, even if she doesn´t know it was poison.
They don´t need her to have friends, they need her to have allies, strenght from outside and those willing (be it for friendship or gain) to lend it, ESPECIALLY against higher ranked enemies.
