the idea that a year wouldnt understand when someones trying to marry them off in a skeevy way is so eyerolling to me. lets me know the author clearly has never actually talked to kids before (which is pretty consistent with most of these stories tbh lol). i was so pleasantly surprised that they were going down the route of “yes, the child who is perfectly capable of cognition is actually aware of when things are skeevy” and then it just became ‘no child could understand this, it must be bc he has a crush!’

(i know theres also the opposite problem in some of these works where you’ll have a bunch of super genius children but i just personally find that less annoying because i work in childcare and yeah, they 100% write kids as dumber than they actually are because they have no idea about the actual ages of childhood development. you see ten year olds written with the maturity and development of a 5 year old and its just /bro/, please learn at least one thing about children before you write them idk just bugs me more cuz i actually work with kids lol and i havent actually forgotten what it was like to be a kid)
