Because he’s an egotistical p.o.s, though it’s passive and may seem like misguided concern, he’s being oppressive, insensitive, and chauvinistic. Because he keeps covering it up with last minute apologies, gifts and the like makes him appear somewhat endearing but he’s just an ass.
The first thing I’d do after coming back from my super awesome comfy academy life to my house where my sister was horrifically abused and almost killed is not say “hey wanna marry my best friend?”
