A wide guess: the restriction was put on her by her father or mother because her magic was way too strong, and the reason why her father never resented her for her evil actions was because he felt guilty that she became so depraved because of him (if he was really the one who put the restraint on her)
Also, Emma is probably not the Emperor’s daughter, but the Duke’s, and he wants to use her to seize the throne or something. It’s just a speculation, but if the plot really unravels like I think it will, then I’m dropping this.
I have to say, though, this “long-lost sister coming back after years of living a miserable life and stealing the spotlight” plot reminds me of Who Made Me A Princess. It almost feels like a cheap knock-off of that story….
