Yeah the most stupid thing here is the fact that the brother never bothered to go see her during past 10years. Only excuse I can accept is if he was banned from coming to the capital or something like that, and even them he could have just sent someone else to check on her, or send an attendant that would make sure to deliver his letter to her her hand, or at least to one of her closest maids. Like I am still angry! There is absolutely NO REASON you can’t see your family for 10 years if the relationship wasn’t left on bad terms. Who just casually goes without seeing their family for that long? Clearly the brother and the parents didn’t care much about what happened to her, and that’s pretty crazy considering the fact that she left as a child. Not only that, they didn’t have the balls to show up at her funeral? That right there is true abandonment. Awe she didn’t answer your letters? boo fucking hoo she was forced into a marriage and lived for 10+ years being treated like dirt with no one on her side.

Even if the brother never suspected the letters were intercepted, why did he never come to the capital for the past ten years if he cared for her that much? It makes no sense for her family to not go to the palace just bc “they’re neutral” and “only go for important matters”. A direct descendant of their family is the empress ffs!! And how can the imperial family just take FL as empress if the vandell family seemed opposed to it? Aren’t they a dukedom and even more wealthy than the imperial family? This just makes no sense.
