I know a lot of people are mad at the servants for not doing anything, but what were they supposed to do?
They are commoners serving a ducal household, if they interfered they were likely to be killed.
At best they could have tried to comfort Serpens afterwards(which if they were caught the parents might have decided that was intereference) or tried reporting the parents(which might not have done anything, it’s not like they’re concerned about child abuse).
