Personally I take imprisonment very seriously. It’s a form of restricting freedom of an individual = aka utmost disrespect, disregard of their will, and proof of not seeing them as an equal but someone subject to them, someone “lesser.” I don’t care how you explain it away with his motivation, that’s what it boils down to. For years it’s always been the issue – wives being dependent on husbands and not allowed to own property, own their own money just allowance from husband, and including restrictions on movements – not being able to go where they wanted whenever they wished. That includes imprisonment. It doesn’t matter if it’s a cell or a parlor. The meaning is the same. She’s the object, belonging to him, and he feels he has the right to manage her as he pleases with complete disregard for her will or personhood. Bottom line – this feels awful.
