I’m assuming it’s she wants to HEAL, but can’t tell if healing would be to work through their mutual past together or cut him out entirely. Because fully understanding your feelings doesn’t mean you are ready to address them or work through them.

Healing shouldn’t involve being considerate of the feelings of the person who hurt you. This being a romance, despite a lovely son and a promising career, she won’t be allowed to be truly happy until she gets a guy. In reality, healing and happiness comes with or without a man.
Right now, having him approach her is causing her this distress and confusion. I think it’s clear that she needs time to figure herself out and she shouldn’t have to deal with his sad puppy face while she does.
