I think he really does love her, or care about her deeply, but he really wanted to be a human for her in the first life. But then when he saw that she was about to die, he had to show his true demon self to her in order to save her. And maybe he can’t love her for some reason if he makes a contract with her, so he could only do that by acting like he doesn’t actually care about her?
