Him trying to hide his strength just doesn’t make sense whatsoever. He fought against 2 knights using his mana sword when he was fighting in their manor. There were a lot of witnesses, also people that were hostily to his family, so anyone with a bit of investigation will figure out that he is at the very least an expert and it will look very obvious that he is hiding his strength. If he just used his mana sword they could have assumed that this is sort of the extent of his abilties, but this way they would easily deduce that he is much stronger.
