Ah, I’m glad that the original female lead Lillie is so cute (and obviously will need to be saved from the crown prince in the longer run).
I like that statement of our heroine: “In novels, that kind of character seems cool and attractive. But in reality, they’re creepy and terrifying”. It’s something I often think and wonder why authors love the “cold duke of the north”-type who had a horribly dark childhood and has lost his emotions in countless battles (a mental disorder induced by traumatic events?)…
I’ve known older people who actually experienced WWII and nearly everyone was mentally affected in one way or the other – and nope, this cannot be cured by love, like all these romance stories try to make us believe. Most people are on their best behaviour while lovestruck, but this hormon-filled phase does not last forever…
