I actually really sympathies with Luciano. It killed him on the inside to do all of this; he bore some of the heaviest crosses in this entire series. Apart from Ines and Carcel.

Luciano did not kill Ines’s child though. Ines killed her child herself by strangling him to death as shown in ep11. I agree about the imperial family. Readers seem to think this was a private affair with Ines family but it was a full blown scandal involving the entire country. Neither the nobles nor commoners agreed with her actions. The nobles wanted her brought back and punished with her family and the commoners slandered her name everywhere and called her a ‘noble prostitute’. Her family was in as much deep water has one can expect when a family member humiliates the imperial family.
Imagine Princess Diana run away with another man a mere few months before her wedding with Prince Charles. Even in our modern day the world would criticize her for her actions. So imagine over a century ago when that kind of scandal had greater consequences.
Why does Ines hyperventilates when she sees anything associated with the painter? Guilt. Why does she feel guilty? Because she knows she deliberately plotted to involve an innocent stranger in her escape from the crown prince then he ended up getting killed. She doesn’t even want Carcel to know about this and about killing her own child. Like the novel author says, Ines in this current timeline is like a murderer who cannot forget her guilt for even a moment.

The manhwa basically covered up a lot of things and make it seem like only her family was at fault but Ines knows and will admit she wasn’t without fault. It was her actions that started the tragedy of that timeline. The manhwa won’t tell the truth because they cover for Ines.
