I love the complicated power dynamics in the story, I just wish the author said more about it instead of leaving it implied. I know they say “show, don’t tell” but ppl need to be taught how to recognize it. The prince is a bog standard self-aggrandizing good for nothing but the queen could easily have been in Ines’s shoes so the way she acts to put Ines down and blame her for things out of her control is a way for the queen to distance herself from the the fear that, ‘It could have been me and I just got lucky’. The queen does this as protective armor against her own helplessness, I’m not letting her off for her nasty disgusting behavior, just digging in to the ‘why’ of it. I could be over thinking this and the queen could just be a ignorant b*tch but I like smart characters even if they’re bad
