For someone who’s lived a couple hundred years, Clodan is all kinds of stupid. I mean, I know he’s focusing more on uhhh, let’s say the physical, but he has some knowledge about her past, if he literally just asked her about it more, he’d learn that for someone with a past of being neglected and undermined like Ray, it’s doesn’t matter if it’s the devil giving you respect and affection, you’ll choose that kind of overwhelming “love” over ice cold rejection every day.
