!Spoiler Warning! : his obsession with her takes over. He promises not to hurt her, says he loves her (his understanding of love is messed up because she was the only one who ever showed him “love” in the form of master + beast), and intends to make her empress. However, in MC’s mind, this is all a playact/game until he gets tired of her and she’s waiting for if/when he’ll let her go.
MC (I think it was prob from when she was initially blinded) is able to access OG Illyana’s dream power and walks into other people’s dreams (one was a kid, another one was a knight commander). She still hasn’t fully accepted that she’s Illyana and misses her old life – she’s also realizing more and more ML is never going to let her go. She wants to go back, but doesn’t know how until he mentions going out on the lake for a day (basically thinking about dying). While they’re chatting in a boat, she thinks she seems a glimpse of her old life in the water and feels like she’s being compelled to jump in. Right before she’s fully submerged, she takes a look at ML’s face and sees how upset and angry he is, and realizes this was a mistake but it’s too late to go back.
After ML rescues her, he thinks he’s been too easy going on her, giving her space and some freedom to do as she likes. To punish her and make her fully dependent on him, he makes her blind, mute, and deaf for 3 weeks. She can’t do anything and can’t sense anything unless people touch her (causing her to flinch) and during her non-waking hours, escapes into dreams. She eventually finds her way into the darkness where her dad is – he’s in demon/monster form – and she begs him for help.
She can’t tell who’s with her but she’s going a bit crazy not knowing how much time has passed and only sensing people when it’s mealtime. On the outside, ML has been with her for the most part for 3 weeks. He realizes that despite having her by his side and ensuring she won’t run away, he misses her chattering and reactions compared to this tame empty shell, and eventually releases her from the darkness.

So I understand if she is from a bloodline with a dark history why he acts this way, but not so much why he never interfered with royal injustice. Succession? Pah, he has no problem interfering here. If anything, he doesn’t want the royal heir to have her power.
