I don’t think its an issue, i dunno if this concept applies here but usually, the tanned skin tone characters meant for men as they spend a lot of time under sun due to work related or hobby (like swimming). Asian women however are obsessed with whitening products. Also, in most fandom, tanned skin male characters are quite popular, always placed top 5. And from what I have observed for this series, Fairy King actually has more fans than Simon (Shyman).
