@MiscMech I also agree that this legal system is very flawed. If Lucius is the judge, then who knows how many people would be tempted to commit crimes so that they can get a chance to kneel before the hottest man in the empire.

BTW, @Attackonfeelings is right. Removing rights and protections from criminals opens everyone up for those same inequalities. Like, say these men weren’t slave traders, but instead got into a bar fight with no clear perpetrator? Or say someone is accused of theft by someone else? You can’t guarantee that the system will Only be stacked against the “bad” “criminals”.
Honestly, even without him dating her, his involvement with the case should have him giving a testimony himself, not presiding over it. Where’s LegalEagle when you need him?
