He’ s also probably gone through loads of traumatic experiences as well and different people react differntly to that.
so in a way i feel sorry for him.

Just like how Damien manipulates to remain in Ellie’s favor, Carsen is bullying the kids to gain Ellie’s affection. Kid probably seen adults practice power and see how others follow them and replicates those actions.
