Nope because he’s an affluent figure. Remember that he ‘almost’ married Anastasia’s mother who was first in line on inheriting the throne. Meaning, he might be the most promising bachelor among the single men in their kingdom for him to be a candidate for prince consort. He also look like in par with the blonde dude in terms of power since he has his own knight to lead (he looks like someone who leads knights in war but minus the divine power. So we can assume he had his contributions on war too and can be considered as a war hero? Idk the exact words). So marrying the second princess won’t be as hard. Their problem is that, Anastasia has the same talent as her mother plus the king and the temple (might support her) is doting on her.
If this happen the 2nd princess might lose in a power struggle. The scarred man wish to join forces with the 2nd princess because he can’t take the fact that the next ruler seems to look fondly on the blonde guy (giving mr. Papa more political power than he has)

Her biggest weakness is that she is a child out of wedlock and has a commoner’s blood (not to mention from a rival kingdom according to her mom’s will) so her reputation in terms of legitimacy is kinda low. The support of aristocrats is probably at the 2nd princess atm but if the king decided to show Anastasia more favor (due to her ability) odds might turn in Anastasia’s favor (which is a threat on the 2nd princess)
That is why they are planning to marry and adopt her under the stance of ‘protecting’ her from the backlash. But the real reason was they are just eliminating her from being a crown princess candidate. Because once the 2nd princess had the throne she will have the power to decide which among her children can be her successor.
What’s confusing me is that, why is she even considered as a candidate when she’s a 3 Generation away from the throne. She’sbasically a granddaughter of the current king. Her mother didn’t inherit the crown so why is she considered to be a candidate? She should be at least a countess or a duchess atm and not a royal princess. I am just assuming that it is because of her talent in magic.

Im so confused. Even though he explained in the previous chapter, I dont see how they’d be allowed to adopt the princess who’s protected by the temple at the Emperor’s order coz of the saint status she wields.

Those are my exact thoughts- The only connection that nasty commander has with Anastasia is that he was her mother’s fiance. But that doesn’t mean that he should be able to adopt her since he wasn’t even married to her mother.
