Claire in her past life probably didn’t try to provoke her (like in many other stories where the supposed FL is nice but evil in reality).
Besides, if the prince’s story is to be believed, it’s the goddess od darkness who’s to blame. If I’ve understood correctly, she made everyone believe that Claire was the divine envoy of the goddess of light (I think) when (as has just happened) she was in fact her own divine envoy (the darkness envoy).
