I know EXACTLY what happened here. Not spoilers because I haven’t read ahead and I don’t know that they’ll even explain it, but it’s kind of obvious isn’t it?
She came to Catherine when she was too young to understand fully, but old enough to know how to keep her mouth shut- and told her that SHE was her mother. She probably started out really intense like ‘your mother won’t love you if she finds out you’re not the right child’ or something and then moved to ‘if your mother wouldn’t love you if she found out, then you shouldn’t love her either’ and then moved along to ‘once I’m grand duchess, I can make you a legitimate daughter instead of a switched child and unlike that woman, I will ALWAYS love you as I always have’ and over time, she came to resent the Grand Duchess instead of the woman who switched the children because kids are easy to manipulate.
At first, she would’ve tried her hardest to look angelic so that the Grand Duchess would love her, but slowly her heart would’ve become poisoned and she would’ve started complaining to her bio mother in private which said mother would’ve encouraged. It’s VERY easy to get a child to turn on a loving parental figure if you know how to spin it. It’s happened multiple times.
In a divorce where there was no infidelity or really any fault, a mother or father can still make their children hate the other parent somehow, it happens everyday.
I don’t mean to be flip, I just kept seeing these kinds of comments and they confused me. It seems so obvious what happened, to me. But maybe that’s because my parents were manipulators.
im ngl my suspension of disbelief is really challenged with catherine
like…. alicia has her own reasons, whatever. but catherine grew up with the grand duchess doting on her? adopted children often love their adoptive parents? theres literally no reason provided aside from blood relation as to why catherine would hate her ‘mother’ so much??? and even if she didnt love her as a mother, it makes sense for her to at least be a beloved auntie in catherine’s mind?
all im saying is that catherine’s psychology makes no fucking sense. even if alicia spent her whole life filling her head with lies about diana, catherine is 15 years old. she’s not at an age where she would just blindly listen to whatever her birth mother says.
idk, i could understand a version of the story where catherine reluctantly sides with alicia, as her birth mother, but the deep seeded resentment and hatred for diana makes no freaking sense and it’s kinda driving me crazy??? i guess this story is just going with the kid was born evil cuz she’s alicia’s kid or someshit but idk. it just doesnt make sense. unless diana was a legitimately terrible mother to catherine, this sort of resentment is mind-bogglingly strange.
yes, there are teenagers who turn on loving parents bc they’re teenagers, but that definitely doesnt seem to be what the author is trying to portray here. this isnt some ‘teenage rebellion’, this doesnt even seem to be an attempt at ‘she was brain washed by her birth mother’, they’re just putting all of their eggs in the basket of ‘catherine is just really evil and a villainess, you should hate her, she’s alicia’s daughter! that’s reason enough!’. sigh. ngl if this keeps up, i’ll prolly just drop this piece. it’s interesting, but my suspension of disbelief is straining so hard against this one plot point that its getting impossible to enjoy
This is exactly my problem with the story!! Her attitude towards FL makes no sense! It’s hard to believe she would hold so much resentment for someone who grew up loved and well-off. It’s so ridiculous lmao
holy shit little biatch is barking way too much huh oh no oh no oh no have fun and throw tantrum while you can they even named her huh how dare that white her bastard do that! he really have no tears
