I wouldn’t find it strange if all the possible partners of the female lead had made somehow similar experiences, decisions and sacrifices in the “past life” (well, it rather seems like some sort of alternate dimension – since the female lead died, but the world did not immediately return in time or reset, instead the tree witch creature said she could “send” the general to where the female lead was…).
