yeahhhh i wondered how helene put up with an idiot and the answer is that he’s every bit the canny mfer she is, only he knows how and when to play his hand. i don’t think he’s an asshole, he’s just reassessing what threat she poses to his family. she’s allowed around his kids, remember. if she resents the ducal house for the way she was treated – and her phrasing absolutely makes it sound like she might – he has very real cause to believe she could hurt his children. protective daddy instincts engaged on cue. i can’t be mad at him for that.
I still don’t like him as a male lead, fits more on the 2nd ml standard and the emperor as the male lead because of the animosity they already have with each other
Sure supportive ml works but he in the technical sense has only been watching her from a far, literally watching her suffer and do things on her own which is a bit admirable to let her do things herself but at the same time he just been watching her without letting himself be known to her until she has been placed in this inconvenient position
Compared to that, the animosity between her and the man who put her in that situation seems to be much more entertaining especially story wise since they show how much dislike and cunning they have
