question for the corsett-wearing folks:
I neither wear mine for long nor on bare skin (who the fuck even came up with that idea o.Ô), and I never noticed anything similar to the skin problems a bra in summer gives you, the moisture always got nicely taken away.
Artist also has a good understanding of the clothing, so is it just a mistake by the author/artist, or is it a problem when you wear a corsett for the full day? I can imagine the piece of clothing beneath the corsett (to keep the damn thing clean and nothing digging into the skin like modern bras -.-) would only take in moisture for so long, ending up at the “bra in summer” problem again, but I´m not sure. Any reader hear with (actual) insights cause you switch the bra with a corsett for daily long-term use?
Honestly with a corset it depends on the weather (and the person) when you wear it that probably matters the most. I’ve worked Renaissance Faires wearing a steel bone handmade corset for 8hrs or more. If you don’t take care of your skin before or after wear it wouldn’t be any different from wearing a sweaty bra for extended periods. So heat rashes can definitely happen, but it would be completely on the person and the fit of the corset.
Not necessarily an huge glaring issue, but I’m sure working women and noble women in hotter summer months it wasn’t an unheard of issue. I mean any tight restrictive clothing can potentially lead to rubbing or rashes, and I think people would have appreciated a good antiperspirant that isn’t irritating in any era lol. Especially women in several layers of dress without AC.
Corsets were nearly never worn on bare skin though, almost always with a chemise or other lightweight garment underneath – both to protect the corset itself from sweat, oil, odor, and to protect the skin. Plus noble women would normally change their clothes several times a day, so they would have been able to reapply their skincare products and address any sweat or discomfort during changes.
Idk a lot of corset slander gets perpetuated in manhwa, but this isn’t too egregious.
mind you, shes a teacher, probably the most detail oriented people youll ever meet. Shes amazing and shes right, lots of scientists back in the day conduct experiments themselved thats why papers and theories were easily accepted. from isaac newtons apple to marie curies uranium. scientists can only take pride in their respective studies if they did it themselves and with much sincerity.
