It´s always amusing when someone capable enough to build and/or maintain (depending on who started) a massive business or powerful family, is so blind they disregard anothers ability, even though reality shoves it into their face.
I mean, say what you want about her father, but his business wouldn´t even exist, much less be a big name if he was fool, unless he´s a figurehead (and I don´t think that was mentioned). Yet he, a MERCHANT, with DECADES of experience in dealing with various people, thinks she will behave because she´s told to, and has no real ability because she´s his daughter.
Even though her father, of all people, should know full well the REAL requirements to start, raise and maintain anything big, be it a business or a noble house. Greed and pride included~~
Money is its own power. The guy likely ran roughshod over others with his pre-existing wealth, and curried favour with other nobles.
Well established families are hard to disrupt unless a serious misstep occurs.
Additionally, this is a male lead fantasy world, so the flaw of misogyny is hardly going to affect his work efficiency when there are hardly any female merchants to make mistakes with.
