He’s the true heir – his mother is the late princess, she’s the daughter of his step-mother, the princess’ lady in waiting. Now I’m not sure if her father is the king, which means then they would be related but i don’t think they are. I think the step mom being okay with the two being together alludes to the fact that they are not related but she cannot tell him she’s not his real mother because that would put him in danger since the king already knows it’s his sister’s son, the actual heir. Confusing, wish they’d fully unravel this already
