Of course I do not excuse the mother’s behavior and I am even angry just like all of you but it must be admitted that this woman deserves respect for having protected her daughters from need. and to have helped her family get back on track. I’ve been reading the comments for a while now, but I realize that there is no single objective. Far from making excuses for his mother’s behavior, but from you to me, in his place , in his time and especially in his situation, what would you have done? Let’s be honest for a second, you are a beautiful woman, widowed, with five children all girls, with one of the lowest titles of nobility that exists, without power and especially without money, in a time when noble women were not expected to work because of their rank, where women were only important and respected for their looks and/or social rank, and on and especially where unfaithful men were commonplace and normal, wouldn’t you have had the same reasoning as this mother?🤔😢

The mother is power hungry. Won’t rest until she gets what she wants. To the point of sacrificing her daughters happiness till she gets there. Im glad Tatiana is going to break from it and follow her own destiny.
Y’all didn’t even need to read the descriptions to see how bad her mother is. Like, in one chapter, it went into depth explaining how her mother rose to power dispute being a widow by practically selling off her 4 daughters to powerful houses. And, not only that but she clearly doesn’t mind infidelity in their marriages. She even said that if their husband cheats, then so can they. If that doesn’t sound like scummy mother, then I don’t know what does. Tatiana’s mother prioritizes power over happiness that comes from love.
She is just a vicountess while some authors play loosey goosey with nobility. Vicount is pretty low. They are low enough that marriage to a wealthy commoner wouldn’t be consider unusual So her getting powerful son in laws is probably her only shot at getting any sorta of power because it’s not like she can get “promoted”
