I don’t think this story will follow this train of thought much, yet the ideal love marriage vs the concept of loveless, arranged marriages deprived women of rights. In a love marriage concept the woman is supposed to selflessly contribute her all for the name of love; all the work arounf the house and children without expecting a payment, since it is a responsibility for a loving housewife (love does not necessarily need to be involved:) While arranged/ political marriages come with contracts and a set of tasks and rewards for said tasks (like managing the finances, also dowery to be used by the woman only) that provide a more stable position (it may include love, it may include arrangements of cheating).
So do I, and I am wondering if her rebellions and multiple marriages were part of why tatiana seemed more ‘docile’ outwardly. Like seeing her sister’s repeat issues made her think she should just accept the best and first choice her mother made for her only recanting when this choice involved trampling her pride before even getting off the ground. The issue with educating in a well-rounded way is she is fully aware that betrayal at the outset risks greater problems later even if her mother is too foolishly greedy to get that point.
