So simply put..
The Southern Army renowned for its soldiers possessing exceptional battle skills has dwindled to a clump of throwaways from noble families after the events of the Silent War. Not wanting to risk their heirs’ lives, the noble families sent either third-borns or adopted sons to partake in the war.
Rubel offered to whip them up into shape in order to regain the honor of the Southern Army.
At the end of this chapter, the Priest intends for Rubel to lead the North and Eastern armies into the Grave (she is to be at the forefront of both armies I suppose).
He is basically sending them to their graves knowing damn well the current state that the Southern Army is in, and if Rubel leads the Eastern AND Northern armies with that sorry excuse of a Southern army, chances of survival (by the Priest’s estimates probably) are dangerously low, especially since the North won’t take this decision lightly.
(Eastern Army…..maybe cause the Mad Dog of the East is leading it, there’s no squabble there)
I mean, you’ve seen how her own comrades have treated her, who’s to say the Northern army will be any different?
