too often people conflate marriage with this whole “relying on a man” bullshit when in reality it’s supposed to be a necessary partnership. a buddy system. there’s too much shit to do in this world if you want to survive. you have to team up to fight through all of it. i do agree wholeheartedly that marriage in its traditional sense is not the be-all end-all solution to that problem, and shoehorning that cooperation into a sexual relationship is fundamentally stupid, but i do get where they’re coming from. lady has the single most difficult and stressful job on the planet and has nobody to back her up on an equal level, and that’s something that will destroy your soul given enough time to wear you down. what i don’t think any of them understand is how much she actually does lean on everyone around her to fill the gaps, and isn’t bothered
